Nothing Like A Good Book

There is almost nothing better than a good book when you’re feeling sick, bored, or just need a short escape.

I used to despise reading as I was growing up. My mind would wander and It would take me a good couple hours to get through a kids book. It took way too much effort! Now, however, reading is something that I try to make time for in my insanely busy schedule.

My favourite book of all time would have to be Redeeming Love. I know, that sounds all mushy and gushy, but it is a beautiful story. It is a retelling of the Bible’s book of Hosea in which God tells Hosea to marry a prostitute. God tells him to “Go, show your love to [her], though she is loved by another man and isย an adulteress. Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods.” It’s a story of redemption, as you probably could have guessed by the title, and love and peace that surpass all understanding. I may not have sold you on the book, but I promise it’s a good one.

Do you like to read? What’s your favourite book? Any suggestions for good books? If you’ve read Redeeming Love, what did you think of it?

Thanks for reading:)

The Right Track

Major Cliche WARNING!

Much like this train track, I can’t see exactly where my future will be. All I can really do is hope and pray that I will know where I’m supposed to go with my life and career decisions. Sure, I can feel uneasy when it comes to major choices that have to be made, but who doesn’t? Who feels 100% about every decision they have ever made? If you have, that is amazing and I wish I had your confidence.

I do sometimes questions the decision I made to go into Education rather than Fine Arts, but I always come to the same conclusion. I am happy with the career path that I have chosen. Every time I tutor, I can see growth in the students I have taught. When I’m working at my job in after school care, I feel the bonds that I have created with the children I look after. For me, there wouldn’t be a more fulfilling career than aiding students in their growth intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.

I do not often question my decision to go into Education, but when I do, I know that I have experiences and joys that drown out any concerns that I may think of.

Are there any experiences that have made you certain of the decisions you have made? If you weren’t in the career that you are in right now, what would you be doing?

If Only

If only I had learned some of these things in high school.

Most of the things in my ECMP 355 class are completely new to me. I hadn’t heard of half of the media tools, handy websites, or even opened up my iMovie before this class. I really enjoy seeing everything that the internet and other minds have to offer. I keep thinking over and over, this would have been so helpful in high school!

My computers 20 class, I never took computers 30, consisted of typing memorizing and spewing back website coding information. I don’t remember any of it. We never learned about the many tools available to us and I feel like that’s mostly what a computer class should be. We should be shown how to use a computer as a means of gaining further knowledge about the world surrounding each of us and not as a machine that we can run google. (I am in no way saying that google is not a good tool, I am a big believer in google :P. All I’m saying is that a computer is capable of so much more)

One thing that is important to remember is that the computer is not in control. You have the power to search what you want, click what you want, see what you want. You have the control.

How computer savvy are you? Were you fully informed of the possibilities that you can explore with a computer?

Our Terrifying Door Scene

With Mercedes and Kirstin, we managed to create a terrifying 30 second scene. It was a lot of fun to make and I hope you enjoy it.

I’m Still Learning

This is my littlest cousin. While our families were out swimming one day last summer, she asked her mom if she could get an ice cream cone. Once that cold treat was in her hands, she would not let go. She was determined to hold it herself until it was gone. Of course, the ice cream cone started to melt, but she would not let go. That was her ice cream cone and she was going to finish it. It ended up getting everywhere! I felt like this quote went with the picture, and the circumstance surrounding it, perfectly. She was still learning how to eat an ice cream cone without having a major clean up afterward.

Every single one of us is still learning something. If we mastered everything that was possibly there to learn, life would be boring. We grow with each new circumstance and ย happening. We are constantly changing and gaining more knowledge. I think Michelangelo worded it best, “I’m still learning.”

What’s something that you really want to learn? Feel free to comment or just ask yourself that question and see what your next life adventure might involve. Do you feel like it’s possible for anyone to be finished learning?
